Women’s Volleyball Releases Schedule for the 2023 Season

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball program has released its 2023 schedule with high hopes for this upcoming season. After a strong season last year which featured a nine-game win streak and a spot in the United East Final Four, the program is primed for another playoff run. The 2023 season will see 28 total regular season matches, including six United East Conference games and several new opponents.

Season in Review: The Chargers finished 18-12 overall in the 2022 season, the most wins since 2018 and the program's third winning season in the past eight years. Starting just 2-7 to begin the season, the Chargers put a rally together in the middle of the season, winning nine straight games to propel them to the conference semifinals.

In conference action, the Chargers finished 5-3 with strong wins over Penn St. Harrisburg, Penn St. Abington, and St. Mary's (Md.). The Chargers' only three losses were against the three other conference semifinalists in Penn St. Berks, Gallaudet, and a five-set thriller to SUNY Morrisville. Clinching the semifinals as the fourth seed, the Chargers squared off against the one seed, SUNY Morrisville, were they fell 3-0 to end the season.

A Look Ahead: The Chargers kick off the 2023 season in upstate New York as they have a match with Houghton on September 1 followed by a tri-match against Maine – Fort Kent and Alfred State on September 2. The Chargers will have one more away game, this time a little closer to home, at Alvernia on September 5 before making their home debut versus Cabrini on September 7 at the Horst Athletic Center.

The Chargers return to the road for a trip to Eastern (Sept. 12) before coming home for a three-game homestand versus Gwynedd Mercy (Sept. 14), York (Pa.) and St. Elizabeth on September 16. Two more non-conference matches to watch out for is the Franklin & Marshall game on September 27 and Homecoming on Friday, September 29 versus Moravian.

The Chargers begin conference action when they host Penn St. Harrisburg (Oct. 4) and Penn College (Oct. 7). Hitting the road once again, the Chargers wind up at Penn St. Abington on October 10 and at Penn St. Berks on October 14. The Chargers have three more away games to end the season as they head to Elizabethtown (Oct. 18) followed by a tri-match on October 21 against St. Mary's (Md.) and Eastern Mennonite.

The Chargers end the 2023 regular season with four straight home games. The last of the United East Conference foes will be Gallaudet on October 25 followed by three non-conference matches versus Bard (Oct. 28), New Jersey City (Oct. 28), and Wilkes (Nov. 1).

Head Coach Julie Brubaker is excited about the chance to compete again this year as she heads into her fourth season at the helm… "We are excited to see what we can do as we build off the momentum of last year while adding a strong incoming class to help propel us further. Between the level of our non-conference opponents and the strength of the United East, we believe we will be pushed but we're excited for another opportunity to compete as a team and look to put a postseason run together."
