Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ben James

Chargers Pick Up Second Straight Shutout on the Road

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer squad traveled to the University of Valley Forge and came out with a convincing win 4-0. The Chargers get their second straight road win and move to 2-2-1, while the Patriots fall to 2-4 with both teams yet to play a conference opponent.

How It Happened: After coming off a win on Monday night, the Chargers looked to come out rolling in the first half. In the 17th minute, Andrew Cox received a beautiful pass inside of the opposing box for a great look, but the Patriots' goalkeeper made a fantastic save. A few minutes later following an attack from Lancaster Bible, the Chargers earned a penalty kick that was scored by sophomore Ben Nolt. The Chargers put consistent pressure on the Patriots, getting six corner kicks in the first half. With just five minutes remaining in the first half, Nolt capitalized on a corner kick, heading the ball into the back of the net as Lancaster Bible entered the second half up 2-0.

Lancaster Bible came roaring out in the second half; after getting an initial shot shaved, Nolt was at the right place at the right time to put back a deflected shot and secure his third goal of the match. Just two minutes later, Cox got his first goal of the game behind an assist from forward Owen Nell bringing the Chargers a 4-0 lead. After each side got a few good opportunities, the Chargers held on to their lead and stayed strong defensively to win the match.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible was led by Ben Nolt and his three goals, and Andrew Cox tacked on another goal. Owen Nell also added an assist, making that his second game in a row recording at least one assist. Richie Lockard led the Chargers' goalkeeper crew with two saves as the starter. For the Patriots, Carlos Persona had three shots and got one on target, and Abner Gabriel Camacho finished with three saves.
