Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Chase Gerber

Chargers Suffer First Loss of Season

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team lost their first game of the 2023 season, falling to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays at home on Tuesday, September 19. The Chargers fall to 5-1 overall while the Blue Jays improve to 2-3-1 on the year.

How It Happened: The Chargers started the first half ready to continue their offensive tear, but the Blue Jays were prepared. Both teams battled back in forth, sending off offensive attack after offensive attack. However, both defensive fronts remained strong with neither budging in the first half. Despite multiple corners and shots, and a couple saves by each goalie, both teams headed to halftime scoreless.

With the score being 0-0, both teams came out hungry for a goal. The Blue Jays were able to strike first on a cross around six minutes into the half. This gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead with a lot of playing time left. As the Chargers fought to get back the goal they gave up, the offensive tempo began to increase, but the Blue Jays prevented any slip-up. It was the Blue Jays again who were able to find the net as they put one into the left side of the goal with just under 15 minutes to play.

The Chargers were unable to even the score as their offensive efforts were not enough against a tough Blue Jays defense. A hard fought non-conference matchup ended in a 2-0 loss.

By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied 5 shots while the Blue Jays had a total of 12 shots... the Chargers won the save battle 4-1... both teams matched in corner kicks with three apiece... Hoffman and Vandernick both tallied a goal... McWhinney and Hoffman added an assist each.

Information to Know: This is the Chargers' first loss of the regular season... this was the first time the Chargers have faced the Blue Jays in women's soccer... this is the Chargers' first scoreless game this season.
