Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Chase Gerber

Chargers Continue Early Season Success with 2-0 Road Win Against Cairn

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team won their third game of the 2023 season with a hard fought 2-0 win over the Highlanders of Cairn University on Tuesday night. The Chargers move to 3-0 on the season, while the Highlanders start their season 0-1 overall.

How It Happened: The game started off slow for both teams. Each team would take turns trying to get their offense going, with the Chargers putting a whopping 11 shots on goal. The Highlanders goalie however was able to hold off the Chargers' relentless attacks, sending both teams into halftime scoreless.

The second half seemed to be no different than the first, as both teams spent the first 15 minutes trying for a goal. The Chargers were able to strike with the first goal of the game with Alison Holl placing a through ball, finding Isabella Eufemia for her first collegiate goal at the 62nd minute, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers did not slow down even with the lead, as they continued to pile on shots. With 17 minutes left in the game, Leah Iman scored a goal off a ricocheted shot, which was also the first of her collegiate career. This gave Lancaster Bible a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Chargers held on to this lead for the rest of the game, tacking on a few more shots on goal to close out with a strong 2-0 win.

From the Coach: "Tonight was a really difficult game for us. We had to fight through a physical battle and a hostile crowd on the road. But I was proud of the character we showed and the resilience to make some big plays in the 2nd half." - Head Coach Jake Warren

From the Player: When asked about the chemistry of the team, freshman Isabela Eufemia was quick to point out the team's cohesion on and off the field. "I think our chemistry is definitely unique because we have a lot of freshman on the team so it's super cool to see how we are already getting along so well not just on the field, but also off. We are also already learning to read each other's runs so I know we will just keep getting better." Continuing on about the early success the Chargers have seen, "I think there are 3 factors to our early success. Lock down defense, hard working midfielders or "midfield dogs" as we call them, who fight to win every ball, and awesome finishers are all a part of the great start to our season. Our defense is doing its job, our midfield is creating opportunities, and we are putting the ball in the back of the net!"

By the Numbers: The Chargers dominated offensively with a 26-2 shot advantage for the night… the Chargers tallied 6 corner kicks for the night compared to the Highlanders' 1… the Highlanders had 10 saves while Chargers end with 0… Eufemia and Iman both scored one goal… Holl had one assist.

Information to Know: The Chargers have allowed zero goals in their first three games.

Up Next: The Chargers hit the road again, heading to the Patriots of Valley Forge on Thursday, September 7 at 4:00 pm.
