Nolt Leads Chargers to Dominant Win Over Wildcats

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team hosted conference foe Penn College on Wednesday night, earning a statement 86-47 win in the Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers improve to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in the United East, while the Wildcats drop to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
 
How it Happened: Penn College got it started with a three, then Natalie Wenger powered to the basket on back-to-back drives to put LBC up 4-3, never surrendering the lead. Rachel Nolt hit a 3-pointer off an assist from Jenna Dombach, then knocked down free throws a minute later to make it 9-3 Chargers. The Wildcats climbed back to tie the game at 11-11 with three minutes in the quarter, then Alaysha Iwais and Isabella Eufemia hit big threes to help LBC lead 19-15 after 10 minutes of play.
  
Nolt made a layup to open the second quarter scoring, then Iwais connected with Shelby Gard for a 3-pointer to bump the lead to seven. Wenger sank a pair of free throws to cap off a 9-2 scoring run, then Iwais found Gard again for a three as LBC led by twelve going into halftime, 38-26.
 
The third quarter was where the Chargers ran away with the game, with Iwais beginning the half with five in a row on a pair of fast-break layups. Nolt stayed hot with a pair of 3-point makes, then Wenger found Iwais for a three to push the lead to 19. Eufemia and Dombach both hit jumpers to extend the lead even more, then Wenger sunk a layup as time expired to cap off a dominant 36-point quarter with LBC leading 74-41 after three. Nolt and Faith Hammond put the exclamation points on the win with buckets to drive the deficit to 40, then coach Ryan Carpenter emptied the bench with five minutes left to close it out. A couple of good stops and a layup by Madison Timberlake sealed a statement 39-point victory for the Chargers over the visiting Wildcats.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers had a season-low six turnovers and scored 30 points off Wildcat miscues
- The Chargers shot 31-81 (38.3%) from the field and 11-29 (37.9%) from 3-point range, while the Wildcats shot 17-59 (28.8%) for the game and 6-24 (25%) from behind the arc
- Rachel Nolt led the Chargers with a career-high 25 points and five steals
- Natalie Wenger also notched a career-high with 14 points
- Senior Alaysha Iwais filled out the stat sheet with 13 points, three rebounds, and a season-high nine assists
- Isabella Eufemia added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench
- The Wildcats were led by Rachel Teats who had 13 points and five rebounds

Information to Know: The Chargers are now 15-2 all-time against Penn College and have never lost at home versus the Wildcats, now 9-0 in the Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are 3-2 at home this season and have won consecutive games for the first time in 2023-24. Freshman Rachel Nolt recorded career-highs with 25 points and five steals and leads the team with 31 steals on the season. Fellow freshman Natalie Wenger scored a career-high 14 points tonight and shot 4-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore Raven Hunter reached 100 rebounds for the season and recorded her third double-digit rebound game. Senior Alaysha Iwais swiped two steals tonight and is now tied for 13th all-time with 116 career steals. Iwais also moved into a tie for 9th in program history with 72 three-pointers.
