Â
How It Happened: It was the Chargers who managed to hit their stride early with a 9-3 run to open the first quarter. The run began with a layup from
Jenna Dombach followed by a three-pointer from
Alaysha Iwais and back-to-back layups from Hunter Raven to start the run. The Lions, however, didn't lie down as they chipped away to tie the game at 13-13. Finishing the first quarter with a four-point spurt, freshman
Rachel Nolt put the Chargers in front 21-20 to end the first quarter.
Â
Trading baskets in the first few minutes of the second quarter, it wasn't until the Lions cashed in consecutive three-pointers to take a six-point lead with six minutes to go in the half. That lead only increased as the Lions turned up their pressure generating steals and open shots. The first half ended with the Lions maintaining a 12-point lead, 44-32.
Â
Dombach got the Chargers going once again to open the second half bringing the deficit back to within 10, but it wasn't long until the Lions grew their lead to as much as 16-points on one of their 14 three-pointers for the day. The Chargers continued to battle, getting the score to within eight points off two made free throws from Nolt.
Â
Looking to put together a rally of their own, the Lions opened the fourth quarter connecting on two more three-pointers to spark a scoring outburst. The Lions went on to hold the Chargers to just four fourth quarter points while scoring 17 of their own leading to an 82-57 loss for the Chargers.
