Chargers Escape Lions' Rally, 73-71

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team headed to Penn St. Abington on Saturday, January 27 for a United East matchup, winning 73-71 on a last-second shot from freshman Connor Storr. The Chargers improve to 12-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while the Lions drop to 7-13 overall and 2-7 in conference.

How It Happened: The Lions got the first bucket to go at the 18:12 mark before Storr opened the Chargers' scoring with a three-pointer. Finding themselves tied at 8-8 all behind a three-pointer from Maureon Tisdale-Couch, the Chargers proceeded to go on a 33-12 run to end the first half. Turnovers and fast break points fueled the Chargers' first half run as they forced 19 turnovers and tallied 13 steals.

The Lions opened the second half with an and-one from Jake Schalki, but the Chargers answered with three of their own layups to keep it a 20-point lead, 47-27. Continuing to find scoring opportunities, the Lions crept within single digits on two made free throws, making it a 49-40 Chargers lead.

Chipping away little by little, the Lions took the lead, 67-66, for the first time in the game since the beginning minutes. The Chargers responded with their own bucket as sophomore Luke Rumbaugh got an acrobatic layup to go, giving the Chargers the edge. A Lions free throw with just 2:10 left to go tied the game at 68-68. Feeling the pressure, the Chargers knew it was crunch time, and freshman Connor Storr came up clutch, hitting a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 71-68. Several more free throws brought the score to even once again at 71-71 with 34 seconds left. Just one full possession remaining, Storr found the ball in his hands with just a few seconds on the shot clock, backing down into the paint, Storr shimmied with his left shoulder turned and nailed a short jumper with just a few seconds left. A failed last second attempt from the Lions gave the Chargers their sixth conference win of the season, 73-71.
