Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Eufemia’s Late Goal Ties Penn College

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team squared off against the Penn College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon tying 1-1 after Matthew Eufemia scored in the 80th minute. The Chargers move to 4-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference while the Wildcats move to 9-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference.

How It Happened: The game started evenly matched as both teams traded shots on goal. Two early shots on goal for the Chargers began to create momentum before the Wildcats scored in the 20th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. With a new sense of urgency, the Chargers stayed on the offensive attack but were unable to convert scoring opportunities heading to halftime with a 1-0 deficit.

Just one half remaining and an important conference game on the line, both teams continued to trade attacks, but nothing turned fruitful as the Chargers faced but ten minutes left in the game. It was in the 80th minute that graduate student Luke Myers sent a ball across fall landing in front of Matthew Eufemia who would take two dribbles and punch it in the right side of the net equalizing the game at 1-1. Both teams looked for a last minute miracle but neither of them were able to as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

From the Coach: "I am proud of the way we found an equalizer and got a point from today's game," said Head Coach Tommy Ardt. "The guys kept believing and battling against a strong Penn College squad. Two big matches remaining as we keep pursuing our team mission."

By the Numbers: The Chargers outshot the visitors 10-9… the Chargers tallied eight corner kicks to the Wildcats two… the Chargers had two saves and the Wildcats had four saves… Eufemia scored his second goal of the season… Logan Stapleton scored for the Wildcats.

Up Next: The Chargers return to the Donald H. Funk Field on Tuesday, October 22 for their Senior Day versus Keystone at 7:00 p.m.
