The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team hosted United East Conference foe the Cairn Highlanders on Wednesday night. Looking for their second straight conference victory, the Chargers ran into a buzzsaw as the Highlanders scored their first three games in the first 15-minutes of the game winning 4-1. The Chargers fall to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference while Cairn improves to 4-2-4 and 2-0 on the season.
How It Happened: It was a blur for the Chargers as the Highlanders jumped out to a very early 3-0 lead to start the game. Fifteen minutes in and 75 more minutes to play, the Chargers continued to battle but the Highlanders were able to squash any opportunities for a comeback from the Chargers. The Highlanders continued to control the tempo and the possession for the majority of the first half.
A 3-0 lead at halftime, the Chargers looked for any opportunity at the goal but fell short as the Highlanders managed to score another in the early part of the second half. Despite the shots being even with the Highlanders taking the edge, 16-15, the Highlanders defense came up big including a blocked penalty kick by the Highlanders goalkeeper. The Chargers lone goal in the 88
th minute came on an own goal from the visitors as they sealed the game 4-1.
By the Numbers: The Highlanders led in shots 16-15 and tied in corners 5-5… the Chargers tallied seven saves to the Highlanders five saves… four different highlanders scored for the visitors.
