The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team traveled to St. Mary's City, Md. on Saturday to compete with United East foe St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks losing 3-2. The Chargers move to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2 in conference while the Seahawks improve to 3-6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.
How It Happened: It was a back and forth game from the jump as the Chargers got off two early shots. The Seahawks returned the favor but were able to convert one of those opportunities in the 13
th minute to take the lead 1-0. The two familiar squads continued to battle possession to possession but neither converted another opportunity entering halftime with a 1-0 lead in favor with the Seahawks.
Looking to turn the momentum, the Chargers found just that in the 53
rd minute as sophomore
Dan Marcroft found the back of the net on an assist from fellow sophomore
Andrew Cox. This was Marcroft's fifth goal of the season.
As momentum began to shift in favor of the Chargers, the Seahawks were able to find another score not long after at the 62
nd minute. The two teams continued to battle but a goal at the 76
th minute increased the Seahawks lead to 3-1. A penalty in the box led to a converted penalty kick from sophomore
Ben Nolt in the 88
th minute but it wasn't enough as the Chargers fell 3-2.
From the Coach: "We competed hard all game but still struggled in certain moments to defend well enough," said Head Coach
Tom Ardt.
"I'm proud of how we kept going to the final whistle. We'll regroup and continue the privilege it is to play."
By the Numbers: The shot total was even with both teams tallying 15 shots… the Seahawks had seven corner kicks to one corner kick… the Seahawks had five saves to the Chargers three… Marcroft and Nolt had the goals for the Chargers.
Up Next: The Chargers return home this Thursday, October 10 for a non-conference matchup with Messiah at 7:00 p.m.
