The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team took to the road for a late game against conference opponent Cedar Crest Eagles on Tuesday night. With playoff contention on the line, the Chargers were gunning for the win. The Chargers came away with a 1-0 victory and improve to 5-5-4 on the season and 4-3 in conference play, while the Falcons drop to 4-7-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in conference play.
How It Happened:Â The first half showed great promise as the Chargers controlled the offensive tempo. They tallied a total of 10 shots, but the Falcons held them off for the first 45 minutes. The Chargers ended the first half of play with an obvious control of the game, but still looking for their first goal.
The second half started the way the first finished, as the Chargers continued to overpower the Falcons offensively. Even though the Chargers seemed to be in control they still were unable to find the back of the net for the majority of the second half. That was until junior Janae Bergey found herself one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper and chipped in the first goal of the game with only 10 minutes left. That goal went unanswered by the Falcons, and the Chargers earned themselves a 1-0 victory.
From the Coach: "We were a little flat tonight and couldn't find a way to capitalize on chances near goal," said Head Coach Jake Warren. "Defensively we were solid and fortunately found a big moment to win the game late."
By the Numbers: The Chargers dominated the shots column 24-5... the Chargers took six corners and the Falcons took one... the Chargers finished with three saves to the Falcons 13... Bergey scored the lone goal.
Up Next: The Chargers stay on the road as they finish out their season against Penn St. Abington on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.
