The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team opened United East play on Tuesday evening, traveling to face the Wildcats of Penn College and falling 62-55. The Chargers drop to 3-4 overall and start 0-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 2-6 overall and have their first United East win of the season.
How it Happened:
Both teams started out slow as neither scored in the first two and a half minutes before the Wildcats got a 3-pointer to go 2:49 into the quarter. It was fifth year
Jenna Dombach who scored first for the Chargers with a layup, then Penn College extended their lead to 8-2. Sophomore
Rachel Nolt and Dombach each got threes to go towards the end of the quarter, with Nolt hitting a second three to make it a 16-11 Wildcats lead after 10 minutes.
Senior
Serene Calderon hit a jumper from the elbow to bring it within one at 18-17 four minutes into the quarter, then Nolt found Eufemia for a 3-pointer to make it a three-point game with over two minutes in the half. The teams traded buckets in the final minute to make it a 26-23 game in favor of Penn College at the half.
The Chargers started the second half with a Dombach three to tie the game at 26 right way. The Wildcats extended their lead to seven, but sophomore
Katie Lewis hit a long jumper to cut the lead back to five. Penn College went up by as many as 12 in the quarter, carrying a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter at 44-34.
The Wildcats grabbed their largest lead of the game at 15 after a 5-0 run to open the final period. The Chargers quickly got back within 10 after a fast break layup from Dombach and an and-one play from sophomore
Natalie Wenger. Calderon led a last-leg effort with eight straight points for the Chargers, but it wasn't enough as Penn College took the game 62-55 in the United East opener.
By the Numbers:
- The game was won at the charity stripe as the Wildcats shot 16-21 (76.2%) while the Chargers were just 5-13 (38.5%) on the night
- The Chargers shot 22-58 (37.9%) from the field and 6-19 (31.6%) from 3-point range, while the Wildcats shot 21-50 (42%) for the game and 4-10 (40%) from behind the arc

Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 16-3 all-time against Penn College, this marking their first loss since February 2023 on the road. This was the first United East Conference game of the season for the Chargers and Wildcats and they will face off once more in Lancaster, Pa. on January 22, 2025. Senior transfer
Serene Calderon surpassed 200 career steals in tonight's game, with 181 at Clarks Summit University and now 20 on the season at Lancaster Bible for 201 career steals.
