Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chargers Can’t Hold on at Penn St. Harrisburg

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team returned from Thanksgiving break to square off against Penn St. Harrisburg on the road Saturday evening. The Chargers led the Lions 50-47 after three quarters of play but couldn't hang on as the Lions went on to win 66-60. The Chargers fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the United East Conference while the Lions improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.

How It Happened: Despite an early 13-4 start from the home team, the Chargers managed to claw back in the first quarter to get it within four points as Serene Calderon knocked in a jumper at 1:22. Rachel Nolt opened the second quarter hitting one of her three three-pointers to bring the deficit to 19-16. Another Nolt three-pointer got it within one point of the Lions at 7:53 but the Lions continued to stay just a step ahead in the first half. Neither team scored in the final three minutes of the half as the Chargers went to the locker room facing a 32-26 deficit.

It was a monster third quarter effort from the Chargers that put them ahead for the first time. Back to back layups from Natalie Wenger started what would be a 13-0 run to start the quarter as the Chargers took a 38-36 lead. The Lions clawed back to tie the game twice but it was the Chargers who found back to back baskets from Isabella Eufemia to jump out to a 48-42 lead. The third quarter ended with a 50-47 lead in favor of the Chargers. Despite the lead, the Lions came out in the second half to reclaim the lead and didn't look back leading to a 66-60 win for the home team.

By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 41-percent from the field, 44-percent from three, and 66-percent from the line… the Lions shot 37-percent from the field, 27-percent from three, and 77-percent from the line… the Chargers had 16 points off turnovers to the Lions 14… Rachel Nolt led the Chargers with 16 points and seven rebounds… Keilani Araniva had 13 points while Serene Calderon added 12 points and four assists… Jordan Carpenter had a game high 24 points for the Lions.
