Chargers End 2024 with Loss to Cyclones

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team wrapped the 2024 calendar year on Monday afternoon, losing 65-54 to Centenary (N.J.) on the road. The Chargers enter 2025 at 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the United East, while the Cyclones improve to 10-4 overall and have not played AEC conference games yet.

How it Happened:
The Cyclones jumped on the board with six straight points in the first two minutes, then sophomore Natalie Wenger got the Chargers in the scoring column with a layup. Centenary (N.J.) led by as many as eight in the quarter, but senior Serene Calderon drew several fouls and made some free throws to keep it close. The Chargers pulled within three at the quarter's end as fifth year Jenna Dombach hit her first 3-pointer of the game to end the first period down 15-12.

It was Dombach who powered the Chargers in the second quarter with eight points, tying the game at 21-21 with a made three. The Cyclones went back up by four, but a driving layup by Calderon and another 3-pointer from Dombach gave LBC their first lead of the game at 26-25. A made three from freshman Natane White and a late jumper from sophomore Rachel Nolt helped pull the Chargers within one at halftime, trailing 33-32.

Wenger gave the Chargers their only lead of the second half with a jumper to put LBC up 34-33. Centenary (N.J.) powered back up by five, but White hit another 3-pointer to tie the game at 39-all. Dombach hit a pair of shots towards the end of the quarter, but the Cyclones built a six-point lead heading into the final period.

Kaylie Elsbree hit the only 3-pointer of the game for the Cyclones two minutes into the fourth quarter to extend their lead to eight, but the Chargers pulled back within three with layups from Calderon and sophomore Isabella Eufemia. However, the Cyclones launched a 10-point run late in the game to help seal their victory over LBC 65-54.

- The Chargers shot 32-percent from the field, 43-percent from 3-point range, and 50-percent from on free throws, while the Cyclones shot 46-percent for the game, 25-percent from behind the arc, and 50-percent on free throws
