Women’s Basketball Tops Highlanders to Open 2025

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team snagged a United East victory to open up the 2025 calendar year, defeating Cairn on the road 64-43. The Chargers improve to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the United East, while the Highlanders drop to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

How it Happened:
The Chargers opened up the scoring with a jumper from sophomore Rachel Nolt, then Cairn scored a pair of shots to grab their only lead of the night at 5-2. A 3-pointer from fifth year Jenna Dombach put the Chargers up 7-5, then Dombach hit another three later in the quarter to put LBC up six points. The Chargers closed out the first quarter with a five-point edge at 17-12.

Senior Serene Calderon knocked down a pair of free throws and later scored a layup to put the Chargers up seven halfway through the second quarter. Nolt hit a 3-pointer to keep the lead at seven, then sophomore Natalie Wenger capped off the half with a layup to put LBC up 28-19 heading into the halftime break.

The Chargers extended their lead to double-digits early in the third quarter after free throws from Wenger and sophomore Isabella Eufemia. LBC launched on a 15-point run that put the Chargers up by as many as 22 points, with a pair of jumpers from Nolt and a knockdown 3-pointer from freshman Natane White highlighting the run. Cairn chipped away over the next four minutes to end the period down 12 points at 47-35.

Lancaster Bible rolled to the finish in the fourth quarter as they led by as many as 25 points, holding the Highlanders to just eight points in the period. Nolt capped the day with nine 4th-quarter points and junior Keilani Araniva added a pair of jumpers to help LBC seal a 21-point road victory over Cairn for their first win of 2025.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers shot 35-percent from the field, 28-percent from 3-point range, and 87-percent at the free throw line, while the Highlanders shot 32-percent for the game, 33-percent from 3-point range, and 77-percent at the free throw line
- Rachel Nolt led all scorers with 18 points for the game, adding six rebounds
- Jenna Dombach added 12 points and six rebounds
- Serene Calderon filled the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists
- The Highlanders were led by Kailee Sobrino with a team-high 14 points and a game-high four steals

Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 8-4 all-time against Cairn since 2008 with eight straight wins over the Highlanders. This was the first road win in conference play for LBC this season, putting them at 3-2 in the United East. Serene Calderon now has the 2nd-most assists in program history with 373 assists, 318 of them coming in her three seasons at Clarks Summit University and a team-leading 55 assists in a Charger uniform. Jenna Dombach moved into 15th-place all-time in steals for women's basketball with 118 on her career, putting her in the top-15 of four statistical categories for the Chargers all-time including points, assists, steals, and 3-pointers. Natalie Wenger reached 250 career points tonight with seven on the game.
