The Lancaster BIble College Softball team past conference foe the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville on Saturday afternoon splitting their doubleheader with a 6-5 win and 11-5 loss. The Chargers move to 4-7 overall while the Mustangs move to 3-5 overall.
Game One, 6-5 Win (8 innings)
How It Happened: After two scoreless innings, the Chargers were the first to strike putting two runs on the board as
Riley Danko scored
Alyssa Hamilton and
Phoebe Clemens stole home. Clemens scored again in the fifth inning off an error in the field to give the Chargers a 3-0 advantage. Nearing the end, the Mustangs last ditch effort in the top of the sixth inning was successful taking the lead 4-3.
With the tide changing, the Chargers earned a clutch run as
Lizzie Weaver scored in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score 4-4. The Mustangs scored again in the seventh putting pressure on the Chargers.
Lizzie Weaver put the ball into play to score Danko tying the game once again at 5-5 sending the game into extra innings.
Hamilton and the Chargers defense kept the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the eighth, notching nine total strikeouts for the game.
Anna Rinaldi came up huge for the Chargers knocking in the game-winning run off a single to centerfield to win the game 6-5.
By the Numbers: The Chargers tallied eight hits for six runs and five RBIs… the Mustangs had eight hits for five runs and three RBIs… Clemens went 3-4 with two runs… Danko had two hits for one RBI and one run… Rinaldi had the game-winning hit…
Alyssa Hamilton had the win on the mound striking out nine batters… several Mustangs had a hit each with Sawitski notching two RBIs.
Game Two, 11-5 Loss
How It Happened: Much like the previous game, the Chargers jumped out to a commanding 5-1 lead after four innings of play. Despite the advantage, the Mustangs had another rally to give but this time they'd keep the lead as a nine run seventh inning gave them an 11-5 lead. The Chargers were unable to return the favor ultimately splitting the home contest.
By the Numbers: The Chargers finished with 10 hits for five runs and four RBIs... the Mustangs had 12 hits for 11 runs and seven RBIs... the Chargers had four costly errors while the Mustangs had one error and six stolen bases... Danko and Rinaldi had two hits each... Lafontaine of Morrisville had a game-high three hits.
