The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team hosted the Mounties of Mount Aloysius on Wednesday afternoon securing a hard fought 6-4 win for their 17
th win of the season. The Chargers improve to 17-12-1 overall while the Mounties fall to 18-10.
How It Happened: The Mounties jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a few Chargers defensive errors. It wasn't until the bottom of the third inning that the Chargers found the scoreboard as
Nick Colarossi scored off an errant throw to third base from the catcher. With a run on the board and new life, the Chargers got two more runs in the fifth behind a single to short from
Evan Sareyka that scored
Josh Hudson and a double to left field from
Shane Stephan that scored Sareyka. Reclaiming the lead 3-2, the Chargers' defense stepped up big as well behind stout pitching from
Dylan Witkowski, who secured his fourth win of the season.
Another hit from Stephan in the seventh inning scored two more runs followed by a single from
Brian Coburn that scored Stephan brought the Chargers' lead to 6-2, an eight-run swing through seven innings. The Mounties looked to stage a comeback in the last few innings, getting two runs in the top of the eighth inning, but the combination of
Owen Shimmel and
Bronson Coburn shut down their efforts, leading to a 6-4 win for the Chargers.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had eight hits for six runs and five RBIs… the Mounties had six hits for four runs and three RBIs… Stephan went 2-4 with three RBIs and a run… Hudson and Coburn had two hits a piece… Bushey had two hits for the Mounties… Witkowski earned the win (4-2) allowing only five hits and striking out eight batters…
Bronson Coburn got the save with three strikeouts.
