Softball Can’t Overcome Abington on Road

The Lancaster Bible College Softball team traveled to Penn St. Abington on Wednesday for their final road conference games of the season, dropping both games by scores of 0-6 and 3-5. The Chargers drop to 13-22 overall and 5-13 in the United East, while the Lions improve to 18-16 overall and 11-7 in conference play.

Game 1: 0-6 Loss
How it Happened: Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings until the Lions found the plate first in the third inning on a 2-out rally to go up 1-0. Sheyenne King led off the fourth inning with a single and a stolen base, but was caught stealing third and the Chargers failed to score.

It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Lions scored again, grabbing two more runs after an RBI-triple and a sacrifice fly made it a three-run lead. Abington found three more runs in the sixth inning and close out the Chargers in the top of the seventh to end the game in a 6-0 defeat for Lancaster Bible.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers were held scoreless on four hits and three walks
- The Lions scored six runs on seven hits with six RBIs and six walks
- Sheyenne King led the team, batting 3-3 with three stolen bases

Game 2: 3-5 Loss
How it Happened: Sheyenne King and Phoebe Clemens both had hits in the first inning, but could not come around to score, while the Lions scored two in the bottom of the inning to grab an early lead. Abington added two more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to widen the gap.

The Chargers were not done yet as Anna Rinaldi hit a single and Clemens knocked a double to put two in scoring position. Noelle Martin connected on a 2-RBI single to put the Chargers on the board and make it a three-run game. After holding the Lions scoreless the next two innings, it was down to the top of the seventh for LBC to make a comeback. Clemens singled to put runners on the corners, then Martin came through again with an RBI-single to cut it to 5-3. Abington, however, closed out the Chargers on the next batter, resulting in a two-run win for the Lions.
