The Lancaster Bible College Softball team had a quick turnaround over the weekend, hosting another United East Conference double-header versus the Bison of Gallaudet University. The Chargers picked up their first two conference wins of the season, 4-2 and 14-6. The Chargers move to 8-13 overall and 2-4 in conference while the Bison are 4-14 overall and 0-8 in conference.
Game One, 4-2 Win
How It Happened: The Bison managed to score two runs through the first four innings while keeping the Chargers' bats at bay. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning that the Chargers got things to go offensively, beginning with a solo shot to left field from
Phoebe Clemens, her second home run of the season.
Alyssa Paulson and
Riley Danko also managed to cross home plate in the fourth inning as
Carleigh Cleland singled. With a 3-2 lead going into the sixth inning,
KariAnn Mecke hit the second home run of the game and first of her career to left center, bringing the final score to 4-2.
By the Numbers: The Chargers registered seven hits, four runs and four RBIs… the Bison had three hits for two runs and one RBI… Cleland went 2-3 with two RBIs… Mecke and Clemens each had an RBI…
Alyssa Hamilton (5-6) got the win, giving up only three hits and striking out one batter.
Game Two, 14-6 Win
How It Happened: Looking for a spark offensively, the Bison nabbed four runs to open the game. Not to be outdone, Hamilton led off the first bat with a home run to left center and Clemens scored on a wild pitch to bring the deficit to 4-2. The Bison homered in the second inning, bringing in two runs to grow their lead to 6-2. The Chargers responded once again as Hamilton got her second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot to make it 6-5. The Chargers brought in two more runs in the second to make it 7-6, marking 13 total runs in just two innings of play for the conference foes.
It was in the fifth inning that the Chargers came alive offensively, bringing in seven runs capped off by Clemens' second home run of the day that scored
Sheyenne King, ending the game 14-6 on mercy rule.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 13 hits for 14 runs and 11 RBIs… the Bison had seven hits for six runs and five RBIs… four Chargers had doubles… Hamilton went 3-4 with three runs, six RBIs, two home runs, and a double… Clemens had two hits for three runs and two RBIs, a double, and a home run…  King had three stolen bases…
Riley Danko got the win on the mound, her first of her career, only allowing two hits and striking out five batters.
Up Next: The Chargers hit the road heading to Penn St. Harrisburg on Wednesday, April 10 for a conference double-header at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
