Chargers Fall in Final Bid to St. Mary’s (Md.), 14-2

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team squared off against the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks on Monday afternoon in their second game of the United East Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Penn St. Harrisburg. The Chargers were unable to find momentum offensively falling 14-2, ending their 2024 season. The Chargers end the season 21-17-1 overall, tying a program record 21 wins, while the Seahawks improve to 12-19 overall.

How It Happened: The Seahawks were the first to find the scoreboard on Monday afternoon bringing in five runs in the top of the first inning. Looking for a response to the five runs, the Chargers were able to get a run on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Josh Hudson got a single through the right-side scoring Malachi Sloane.

The Seahawks scored two more in the fourth to bring their run total to eight. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Chargers scored what would be their final run of the day as Hudson again hit a sacrifice fly to left field bringing in Harrison Hobdy. Unable to get anything else offensively, the Seahawks carried their early momentum into the final few innings scoring another six runs to bring their lead and the final score to 14-2.

By the Numbers: The Chargers were limited to five hits for two runs and two RBIs… the Seahawks had 21 hits for 14 runs and 14 RBIs…  several Chargers had a single hit with Hudson having the lone two RBIs… O'Dell and Tarleton had four hits each for the Seahawks.

Information to Know: The Chargers tied the program record for wins in a season with 21 and tied the program record for longest winning streak with 10 straight wins early in the season… Greenly ends his historic career with 203 hits, 118 RBIs, 166 runs, and 27 homeruns… Coburn ends his career with 152 hits, 98 RBIs, 129 runs, and 12 wins and 102 strikeouts in 138 innings pitched.

This is the conclusion of the 2024 season for the Chargers, as they finished 21-17-1 overall and 7-7-1 in the United East.
