The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team faced off against the Bryn Athyn Lions on Wednesday evening at Donald H. Funk Field. The Chargers secured their first win, shutting out the Lions 2-0. The Chargers improved their record to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Lions dropped to 1-3.
How It Happened: The Chargers headed into their third straight home game of the season looking for their first win. The first half started slow due to strong defensive effort on both sides of the field. Both goalies also added to the effort, making several highlight plays. As time went on, there were several good scoring opportunities, but neither team were able to secure a goal headed into half.
The second half was a different story for the Chargers as they came out of the gate with a newfound sense of confidence. After several great attempts at goal, Chargers sophomore Samantha Perloni knocked in a deep free kick in the 58th minute of the game. This was Perloni's first goal of her career.
Refusing to let their foot off the gas, the Chargers continued to press offensively, eventually getting their second goal to go in the last minute of the game. That goal was from fellow sophomore Amelia DePaul, who found the left corner of the net off an assist from sophomore Isabella Eufemia. This was also DePaul's first career goal. The Chargers kept the sheet clean, leading to a 2-0 win, their first of 2024.
From the Coach: "It was a really good defensive effort tonight. I thought we missed some great opportunities to capitalize offensively, but we played well with the ball and took some key steps as a team." - Head Coach Jake Warren
By the Numbers: The Chargers led in shots with 21 to the Lions' 3... the Chargers topped the Lions in corners 6-2... Perloni and DePaul both had a goal, the first of their careers... Eufemia notched an assist.
