The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team had their second away game in a row as they matched up against the Neumann Knights late Wednesday night. Coming off a draw with York (Pa.) this past Saturday, the Chargers were looking for their first road win of the season. A late goal from Matthew Eufemia in the 77th minute gave the Chargers a 1-0 victory. The Chargers improved 2-2-1 overall while the Knights fall to 2-3-2 on the season.
How It Happened: The first half featured an even battle as both squads jockeyed for position. The Knights, however, were able to find a few more scoring opportunities as they doubled the Chargers' shot attempts for the half. Despite the offensive barrage, the Chargers defense' stood tall while Chargers' goalkeeper Chris Jackson had four early but crucial saves. Both teams headed into halftime scoreless.
The second half started the same way the first half closed. Both teams found scoring opportunities early, but neither were able to capitalize. Jackson tallied three more crucial saves in the first 20-minutes to keep the Knights off the scoreboard. The defensive showing from the Chargers proved pivotal for the momentum of the offense. It was in the 77-minute that a pass from junior Andrew Cox arrived at the feet of senior Matt Eufemia, who placed it into the back of the net to give the Chargers their first lead of the game. With a 1-0 lead, it was the Chargers' defense that secured the victory, fending off the Knights from any scoring opportunity leading to a 1-0 victory for the visitors.
By the Numbers: The shot total was 21-9 in the Knights' favor... the Chargers had 7 saves... the Chargers trailed in corners to the Knights 7-2... Eufemia had the lone goal... Cox added the assist.
