The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team found themselves back at home face another non-conference foe in the Eastern Eagles Saturday afternoon. Both teams looked for a win after previous losses. After a very offensive heavy game, the Chargers ended up tying the Eagles 2-2. The Chargers moved to 1-2-3 on the season and the Eagles moved to 4-1-3.
How It Happened: The Chargers returned home for a contest with the Eagles hoping for a bounce back win. With a new change in lineup and a couple players in new positions, the Chargers put their urgency to score on display. They lined up multiple good scoring opportunities, but all came up short. The Eagles were the first ones to strike as they scored in the 18th minute. The rest of the half played out with no other goals of note. The Chargers headed into the second half down by one.
Despite a slow start to the second half, both teams seemed to find their offensive groove in the second half. The Chargers kicked off the scoring spree as sophomore Isabella Eufemia scored on a 1-on-1 with the goalie off an assist from junior Janae Bergey in the 58th minute. The Eagles struck back soon after with a goal of their own to gain back the lead. Then to cap it all off the Chargers answered almost instantly as freshman Zoe Beers found Bergey for her first career goal. This tied the game up 2-2 with about 30 minutes left of play.
The rest of the game was matched evenly as both teams pushed the pace. There were multiple chances for the Eagles and the Chargers alike, but no one was able to capitalize. After an exciting first half, the game came to a close with a 2-2 draw.
From the Coach: "I thought we put in a good performance today," said Head Coach Jake Warren. "Defensively we stayed organized and only conceded a few chances. It was positive to see us creating some really good opportunities and nice to capitalize on a couple."
By the Numbers: The Chargers led in shots 11-7... the Chargers had 5 corners to the Eagles 1... Eastern led in saves with 4... both teams had 2 assists... Eufemia and Bergey had a goal... Beers and Bergey had 1 assist a piece.
