Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Chase Gerber

Men's Soccer Secures Homecoming Victory

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team opened United East Conference play on Saturday securing a 1-0 lead over the visiting Penn St. Berks Lions. Despite the rainy weather conditions, the Chargers were able to dominate the majority of possession. The Chargers increase to 3-4-1 and start conference play 1-0, the Lions fall to 1-8 and start conference play 0-1.

How It Happened: The Chargers dominated time of possession from start to finish. Despite the offensive pressure including 13 first half shots the Lions were able to keep the Chargers off the scoreboard. Both teams headed to halftime scoreless.

The second half was a bit different as the change in weather conditions adjusted the way both teams played. The Chargers were looking for an opportunity to put one in the back of the net and one final came at the 53rd minute. Just seven minutes into the second half, Chargers sophomore and top goal scorer Dan Marcroft was able to tap in a goal on a rebound from Owen Shoemaker's shot giving the Chargers the 1-0 lead they were looking for.

The rest of the game followed suit as the Chargers used their momentum from the goal to control the half. The Lions weren't able to break the Chargers impressive defensive stand. The Chargers earned themselves a homecoming win as regulation closed out 1-0 against the Lions.

From the Coach: "Today was awesome having so many alumni come back home and we are truly grateful for their support," said Head Coach Tom Ardt. "Our conference opener was a game where we had to attack a low block and we struggled at times to break through, but thankfully we were able to get the game winner in the second half."

By the Numbers: The Chargers led the Lions in shots 21-7... the Chargers dominated corners with 15 to the Lions 1... the Chargers had 3 saves... Marcroft had the only goal... Shoemaker had an assist.

Up Next: The Chargers continue their home stint this Wednesday as they take on Cairn University on October 2nd for their second conference game.
