Second Half Rally Pushes Knights Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team traveled to Neumann on Thursday afternoon for their third contest in Aston, Pa. but this time it was against the host Neumann Knights. Despite an early 1-0 lead at halftime, the Knights came back to steal the victory 2-1 handing the Chargers their second loss of the season. The Chargers fall to 1-2 overall while the Knights improve to 2-1 on the season.

How It Happened: It was a scoreless first quarter despite the Knights' several attempts on goal. Chargers' goalkeeper picked up four key saves in the first quarter to keep the Knights off the scoreboard. Just 41-seconds into the second period it was the Chargers who found the net first as senior Alexis Gilbert got her first goal of the season to go off an assist from sophomore Riley Danko.

With a 1-0 lead early in the second period, the Chargers survived yet another onslaught of Knights attacks thanks again to the efforts of Hoover and the Chargers defense, who blocked or saved six total shots. The Chargers responded with a second burst of energy to close the first half sending three shots on goal but turning up scoreless.

Despite the strong effort from the Chargers defense, the Knights managed to get two goals to go in the second period to claim a 2-1 lead in the third period. Any attack efforts from the Chargers were squashed as the Knights went on to win 2-1.

From the Coach: "We started strong and it was a competitive first half. Unfortunately, we ran out of gas in the second half. Shout out to the toughness of our defense and our defensive corner unit." - Head Coach Becky Elliott

Information to Know: Amanda Hoover's 17 total saves ties a career-high from 2022 against Keystone on October 29.
