How it Happened:
The Chargers struck first as senior
Andrew Cox got the ball in the box, dribbling around several defenders before taking a shot to the lower right corner for a goal six minutes in, giving the Chargers an early advantage. Junior
Dan Marcroft had a shot on goal saved just two minutes later, then the Gators attacked with four shots in three minutes, but freshman
Micah Dressler made a pair of saves to hold them off. The Chargers had two more shots on goal in the half, with the lead staying at 1-0 heading into halftime.
Â
Lancaster Bible had a few free kicks followed by two corners in the first five minutes of the second half, but could not get a shot off. The Gators began to control possession over the next ten minutes, finally breaking through at the 67-minute mark with a score to tie the game at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, Notre Dame (Md.) struck again with another score to take the lead, then completed the three-minute hat-trick with a score in the 70th minute to pull ahead 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining. The Chargers caught a break three minutes later with a foul in the box, forcing a penalty kick but it was saved by the Gators' keeper to hold off LBC. With time dwindling, Cox had the ball and connected with sophomore
Silas Dellaperute, going high right for the goal to pull Lancaster Bible within one with less than six minutes to go. The Chargers managed just one shot after that, with the clock running out in favor of the Gators 3-2 for their first conference loss this year.
