Chargers Fall to Seahawks at Home

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team returned home for the first time in 12 days for a conference matchup with St. Mary's (Md.), falling 2-0. The Chargers drop to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the United East while the Seahawks improve to 8-4-2 overall and 5-0 in the United East.
 
How it Happened:
The Chargers had the first shot on goal of the game as sophomore Zoe Beers took a shot outside the box that was saved, then the Seahawks fired four shots in two minutes but all were off-target. Senior Janae Bergey put a shot on goal late in the half, but the Seahawks' keeper made a save to keep the score blank with halftime bringing a 0-0 score.
 
The Seahawks drew first blood in the 57th minute as they set up on a corner kick and connected for a score, opening the scoring 11 minutes into the half. The Chargers had several opportunities throughout the rest of the half including three shots on goal, but none could find the net. St. Mary's (Md.) struck again with seven minutes remaining on a broken play in the box, going up 2-0. The Chargers had two corner kicks late, but could not get a shot off as they fell at home by two scores and the Seahawks remained unbeaten in conference play.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Seahawks led in shots 14-11 and corner kicks 6-4, while the Chargers had more shots on goal 6-5
- Janae Bergey had a team-high four shots and three shots on goal for the Chargers
- Zoe Beers added three shots with two on goal
- Freshman Ana Pinieski made three saves for the Chargers
- Ella Raines and Brooke Hall were the Seahawks' goal-scorers and Kyleigh Bland made six saves in goal
 
Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 1-6 all-time against St. Mary's (Md.) with the Seahawks winning the last three matchups (including playoffs). This ends the Chargers' five-game winning streak and is now the third time they have been shut out at home this season.
 
Up Next:
The Chargers remain in Lancaster this Wednesday, October 15 as they play host to Penn St Abington for a United East matchup at 7:30 p.m.
