The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team hosted a United East match on Wednesday night as they took on Penn St. Abington under the lights, rolling to a 5-2 victory at home. The Chargers improve to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference while the Lions drop to 5-7-2 and 3-2 in conference.
How it Happened:
The Lions threatened first with a corner kick 11 minutes into the first half but could not score, then the Chargers fired three shots over the next five minutes as junior
Isabella Eufemia got a shot on goal that was saved. The Lions had a shot wide, then drew the first yellow card of the game at the 24-minute mark, then the Chargers followed that with three straight corner kicks as Eufemia had another shot and junior
Haley Moyer headed a shot that just missed off the left post. Junior
Brooke Graham picked up a yellow card for the Chargers, but Penn St. Abington kept the intensity and had two more yellows in the first half with lots of free kick opportunities for the Chargers. With less than two minutes remaining, senior
Janae Bergey got free on the right side and drew the goalie out, escaping a collision and setting up for a shot to the left side that sunk for a score, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead as the first half wound down.
The Chargers drew a corner just 20 seconds into the second half with graduate student
Jade Weir putting a shot on goal that was narrowly saved, but three minutes later the Chargers cashed in on a score as senior
Kayleigh Rhine connected with sophomore
Zoe Beers for a goal in the 49th minute, extending the Charger lead to 2-0. Lancaster Bible drew three more corners in a four-minute stretch with Weir and Beers taking shots, then Abington found an answer in the 59th minute for a score from the left side to cut into the lead at 2-1. Almost as quickly as the Lions' score, the Chargers answered right back as Eufemia dished a pass into the box for Bergey, burying another goal for her second of the game to put LBC back up by two scores at 3-1. The 68th minute brought a corner kick for the Chargers that was sent into the box, bouncing around and cashed in by junior
Chloe Donaldson, her first career goal with the assist to Beers to pad the lead. The Lions turned it back around and scored another goal passed the diving arms of freshman
Ana Pinieski a minute later, but the Chargers did not relent as junior
Leah Iman notched her first score of the season off a deflected shot from Bergey, putting the lead to 5-2 for the Chargers as they would go on to win by that score.
