The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team played at home on Wednesday evening as they hosted Penn St. Abington in United East action, falling 1-0 after a second half goal. The Chargers drop to 6-5-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference while the Lions improve to 6-6-3 overall and 5-1 in conference.
How it Happened:
The Lions had the first few shots of the game, then junior
Dan Marcroft placed a shot on goal six minutes in that was saved. The next shot was taken by sophomore
Silas Dellaperute off a free kick, once again being saved by the Lions' keeper. Penn St. Abington went on the attack with three straight corner kicks, but the Chargers' defense held strong as they stifled each scoring opportunity. Dellaperute had another shot on goal, then senior
Stephen Christner had a good opportunity in the box with a shot that missed high. Towards the end of the half, there was an attack from the Lions that freshman
Micah Dressler fended off, making two great saves to stave off Abington as the half came to a close at a 0-0 tie.
Senior
Matthew Eufemia had a shot that went wide early in the second half, then Dressler made a good save in goal seven minutes in. Disaster struck for the Chargers in the 63rd minute as a shot by the Lions was stopped by Dressler, but it snuck through his arms and was buried in goal as Penn St. Abington notched the lone score of the game to take the lead. The Chargers managed just one shot on goal for the rest of the game and picked up a few yellow cards as the play intensified, falling at home 1-0 to the Lions as they clinched a spot in the conference postseason.
