The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team traveled to Reading, Pa. for a United East matchup with Penn St. Berks, racing to a 4-1 victory and clinching a spot in the conference postseason. The Chargers improve to 7-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in conference while the Lions drop to 3-13 and 2-4 in conference.
How it Happened:
The Chargers struck just three minutes into the game as senior
Andrew Cox punched in a goal off a pass from sophomore
Silas Dellaperute, giving the Chargers the early 1-0 lead. The Chargers kept up the momentum as they fired three more shots on goal, with Cox and Dellaperute forcing saves and junior
Dan Marcroft putting one on goal as well. With the ball near midfield, junior
Zach Coryell put a great through pass up to Cox, punching it in for another LBC score as the Chargers went up 2-0 in the 18th minute.
Penn St. Berks had a quick response as less than three minutes later, the Chargers fouled in the box and made way for a penalty kick that was scored by the Lions to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Lancaster Bible drew two corner kicks during the remainder of the first half with five more shots, but none on target as the Chargers led by one at the half.
Like the first half, the Chargers scored just three minutes into the second half as Cox got fouled in the box for a penalty kick, taking himself and netting his third goal of the game to increase the Chargers' lead to two at 3-1. After another four shots on goal from Lancaster Bible, they connected once again as senior
Matthew Eufemia found space in the middle of the field and delivered a rocket to the right side of the goal for a score, putting the Chargers up 4-1 in the game as they would go on to win by that score and lock up a playoff spot.
