The Lancaster Bible field hockey team hosted their final home game of the season against Penn State Harrisburg. While both teams compete in the United East, this would be a non-conference contest. The Chargers would fall to 2-12 on the season while the Nittany Lions improve to 12-2.
How it Happened:
The Chargers would be on the defensive early as the Nittany Lions would find the back of the net 3:58 into the game. The pressure would continue to build until the 7:58 mark when an
Amanda Hoover save would be rebounded by the Nittany Lions and scored for their second goal of the game. Hoover would secure one more save in the period as the Chargers fell behind 2-0.
Lancaster Bible tried to apply their own pressure as
Ayla Zwally would take the first shot of the game, but it would be blocked. Harrisburg would look to respond to the Lancaster Bible attempt as they found their third goal of the game at 10 minutes into the period.
Hope Swarey would look to keep that goal as the only goal of the period as she would go on to record a defensive save.
Amanda Hoover would continue to defend the net as back-to-back shots to begin the third period would be saved. Yet, the Nittany Lions would earn a penalty corner that would result in a fourth goal. The Chargers would get right back to defending as a pair of penalty corners and a shot would be had by the Nittany Lions, but nothing to show for it.
Lancaster Bible would not go away quietly as they looked to apply their own pressure in the fourth period. In a matter of 60 seconds, they would record three corners and three shots, including two that forced saves. After a short pause, they would continue to take to the offensive, ending with a
Riley Danko shot that was saved. Harrisburg would add one more goal to their total as they closed out the night 5-0.
By the Numbers:
Chargers were outshot by the Nittany Lions 7-20, including 3-13 in shots on goal. Harrisburg would force 12 penalty corners to Lancaster Bible's 5. The Chargers would record 8 saves to the Nittany Lions 3. Ami Mattingly (3x), Sadie Cook, and Alexis Nasuta would be the Harrisburg goal scorers.
