Women’s Volleyball Bested by Gallaudet in Four

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team played at home on Tuesday night as they hosted Gallaudet in United East play, falling in four sets after taking the first. The Chargers drop to 15-10 overall and 7-2 in conference while the Bison improve to 22-5 overall and finish a perfect 10-0 in conference.

How it Happened:
The Chargers got an early lead after junior Lea Sareyka landed a service ace, then junior Jessica Fletcher knocked back-to-back kills for a 7-4 LBC advantage. Gallaudet battled to a one-point deficit, but the Chargers launched a huge six-point run fueled by kills from Sareyka and a service ace by sophomore Madison Reap for a 16-9 lead. The teams battled back and forth late in the set, then three straight points for the Chargers sealed a set one win with a kill by Reap to close it out 25-17 for the early advantage.

The Bison led 3-1 early, but the Chargers surged to take a 7-5 lead after three straight kills by Fletcher. Gallaudet responded with a 7-1 run to take a four-point lead, then extended it to 15-9 on a pair of Brielle Worley kills. The Chargers battled throughout the middle portion of the set, pulling within three after a Sareyka service ace and then within two at 20-18 on an ace by junior Chloe Stenberg. The Bison, however, finished out strong and took set two 25-20 to even up the match at one set apiece.

It was the Chargers with the early set three lead at 4-1 behind a kill by freshman Ashby Brummer, then Gallaudet rode a five-point run to take the lead. The Chargers swung back ahead 8-7 after a big block by Fletcher and senior Riley Dodrer, then the Bison flipped it right back with four in a row. The lead changed again with four straight by the Chargers with kills by Reap and junior Eden Belford, but Gallaudet took five of the next six points for a 16-13 lead. The teams traded points back and forth before Gallaudet got to set point, then a Sareyka kill and a Belford service ace fended off two points before a close kill by the Bison clinched set three for them 25-23.

The Bison pounced on the lead early in the fourth set 6-2 and maintained that distance for most of the set, but the Chargers fought strong with a block and two kills by Belford to stay within reach. After exchanging points in the middle of the set, Gallaudet closed strong with six of the final seven points, winning the set 25-14 to wrap up a win over LBC and a perfect conference record.
