Â
How it Happened:
Junior
Rachel Nolt kicked off the scoring with a pair of free throws before the Cyclones got out to a 6-2 lead, but Nolt knocked down an early 3-pointer to bring it to 6-5. The Chargers swung ahead 11-10 on a jumper by sophomore
Shania Stoltzfus, then Nolt finished an and-one layup to make it a four-point lead. The Chargers then went on an 8-0 run with two made shots by freshman
Emily Wilson, extending the lead to 10 points at 22-12. Junior
Isabella Eufemia finished off the quarter with a big and-one jumper after sprinting the length of the court, ending the first quarter with a 25-14 LBC lead.
Â
Hunter started the second quarter off with a layup, then a made three and a fast-break layup by Nolt gave the Chargers their largest lead of the game of 16 points at 32-16. LBC kept the lead in double-digit with buckets from Hunter and Eufemia, with Centenary (N.J.) keeping pace. The Cyclones cut the lead down to seven before the end of the half, but Hunter knocked down a shot to give LBC a 38-29 halftime lead for their first halftime lead of the season.
Â
After two scores from the Cyclones, the Chargers finally got their first points of the second half two and a half minutes in on a Nolt layup. The Chargers raced back ahead after three straight 3-point makes, two by Wilson and one by Stoltzfus, boosting the lead to 14 points. Hunter and Nolt added scores towards the end of the quarter, carrying an eight-point lead into the final period at 55-47.
Â
Hunter had a pair of layups early in the fourth quarter to get the lead back to 12, but this was where the Cyclones began to fight back as they scored eight straight points to cut the lead to just four. Freshman
Emma Christner had a pair of layups to get the lead back to seven, then the teams traded free throws back in forth as the game stayed tight. A pair of layups and two free throws pushed the Cyclones ahead after six in a row, then two final free throws and a missed jumpshot sunk the Chargers as Centenary (N.J.) completed the comeback win.
