The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team hosted a non-conference game on Tuesday night against Goucher, defeating the Gophers by a score of 49-42 for their first victory of the 2025-26 season. The Chargers move to 1-7 overall while the Gophers drop to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in Landmark play.
How it Happened:
Both teams struggled to score early as the first points came over two minutes in on a Goucher 3-pointer, then junior
Rachel Nolt got LBC on the board with a free throw and again with a layup to tie it at 3-3. Goucher hit another three, then Nolt made another layup for a 7-6 game and freshman
Emma Christner hit a floater on the run to keep it a one-point game. The Gophers got one more to go in the first quarter to lead 11-8 after 10 minutes.
A minute into the second quarter, senior
Raven Hunter finished an and-one layup in the paint for a three-point play, making the score 13-11 Goucher. Around the four-minute mark, Nolt knocked down a three to give the Chargers their first lead of the game at 16-15, then junior
Isabella Eufemia had a fast-break layup to extend the lead to three. In the final minute of the half, freshman
Emily Wilson pulled up for a made three, helping the Chargers take a 21-17 lead into halftime at home.
Hunter had an early score to keep the Chargers on top, then sophomore
Shania Stoltzfus had a mid-range jumper to keep it a three-point game. Over the next few minutes, the Gophers climbed into the lead with a six-point run, then hit a three to take a 31-26 lead with under three minutes in the quarter. Hunter ended the run with a layup, then Stoltzfus knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game at 31 apiece. Wilson had a pair of free throws at the end of the quarter to put LBC on top by two at the end of three.
After Goucher tied the game on the opening possession, Hunter had back-to-back scores on drives to the basket to put the Chargers up by four. The Gophers fought back to tie it at 39-39 with six minutes to go, then again at 41-41 with under four minutes. Hunter and Nolt each had big scores on two straight crosses, putting them back up by four before Hunter rolled for another score and followed it up with a big block. Wilson hit two more free throws, with great team defense down the stretch sealing the home victory for the Chargers and their first win of the season.
