Men’s Volleyball Takes Two Over Geneva (Pa.)

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball had some schedule changes for this weekend, playing a double-header against Geneva (Pa.) at home and taking both matches in 3-0 sweeps. The Chargers improve to 8-4 overall while the Golden Tornadoes fall to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the PAC.

Match 1: Win, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23)

How it Happened:
Set one began tightly contested until a kill and a service ace from sophomore Jordan Yoder helped LBC go up 7-4 early. Geneva (Pa.) rattled off three straight to tie the set, keeping it tight throughout the middle as they took the lead 16-14. The Chargers surged late and took over with a five-point run, featuring a kill and an ace from sophomore Kevin Bryant and another kill from Yoder. Sophomore Jaiden Flanagan finished off the set with a kill to help LBC take set one 25-21.

The teams began set two the same as the first, with neither team gaining an edge until another five-point streak from the Chargers broke out, with junior Zach Wyant serving well behind the line and landing an ace. The Chargers controlled the pace of the set from there, adding a four-point run late behind a kill from junior Jake Rotelle and several Golden Tornado errors. A block by Bryant and junior Nicholas Marion ended set two 25-16 to put LBC up 2-0 in the match.

Set three was tight the whole way through, with neither team leading by more than three points the entire set. The Chargers began with the edge as kills from Marion, Rotelle, and Yoder maintained the lead. The Golden Tornadoes responded in the middle of the set with two separate runs of four points to take a three-point lead. The Chargers were able to respond to close out the set, scoring five of the final six points to take it 25-23 and close out match one with a sweep.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers led in every category with a big lead in service aces 6-2 and blocks 10-5
- Jake Rotelle and Jordan Yoder each had nine kills to lead the Chargers
- Kevin Bryant recorded a match-high eight blocks
- Zach Wyant dished 30 assists and junior Tyler Martin had 12 digs
- The Golden Tornadoes were led by Owen Kelley with a match-high 12 kills
Match 2: Win, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-18)

How it Happened:
The first set featured four ties while the Chargers never trailed in the set, building a 9-5 lead after kills and aces from Kevin Bryant and Jordan Yoder. LBC saw their largest lead of the set at eight points after a five-point run with two kills from Yoder, but Geneva (Pa.) would not go away as they launched an 8-1 run of their own to tie the set at 18-18. The Chargers closed well with seven of the last nine points, with two kills from sophomore Carson Hoover helping win the set 25-20.

Hoover and Yoder had kills early in set two to keep LBC on top, then back-to-back blocks by Zach Wyant built the lead to 9-5 again. The Chargers dominated set two with two separate five-point runs, with Nicholas Marion and Yoder each landing two service aces to power the runs and two more kills from Hoover capping off set two 25-14 for Lancaster Bible. 

Geneva (Pa.) had the lead four times in the third set, but the Chargers continued to respond and stay within reach. A run of four points late in the set helped LBC take control 19-13, then two kills at the end of the set from sophomore Zeke Clark closed out the second sweep of the day for the Chargers with a 25-18 set win.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers narrowly led in kills 30-27 and dominated in service aces with seven to the Golden Tornadoes' zero
- Jordan Yoder and Carson Hoover each had 10 kills to lead the Chargers, with Yoder adding three aces and three blocks
- Kevin Bryant had four kills and four blocks
- Tyler Martin had a match-high 10 digs
- The Golden Tornadoes were led by Evan Puhl with a team-high nine kills

Information to Know:
The Chargers improve to 6-0 all-time against Geneva (Pa.) and have won seven straight sets over the Golden Tornadoes. Jordan Yoder now leads the Chargers this season with 113 kills and service aces with 14. Tyler Martin has surpassed 100 digs on the season with 116.
