Chargers Late Rally Falls Short, Lions Steal Two at Home

The Lancaster Bible College Softball team hosted United East Conference foe Penn St. Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon in a conference match losing game one 10-1 and game two 9-8. The Chargers fall to 11-16 overall and 1-8 in conference play while the Lions improve to 19-8 overall and 9-2 in conference action.

Game One, 10-1 Loss
It was all Lions in game one of the doubleheader on Wednesday as the visiting team scored five runs through the first two innings of play. Phoebe Clemens singled to right field scoring Alyssa Taylor to get the Chargers' lone run. The Lions went on to score five more runs through six innings of play to take home the first game win.

By the Numbers
  • The Chargers garnered eight hits for one run and one run batted in.
  • The Lions had 10 hits for 10 runs and nine runs batted in.
  • Phoebe Clemens, Carleigh Cleland, and Alyssa Taylor all had two hits each.
  • Clemens had the lone triple.
  • Miller got her eighth win of the season for the Lions while Maddison Atkins struck out four batters.
Game Two, 9-8 Loss
The Lions scored three runs in the first inning keeping their momentum from game one, the difference though was the Chargers responded with three runs of their own to make it a tie ball game 3-3 after one inning. Down 6-4 in the sixth inning, Taylor hit a huge single to center field to score Cleland and Atkins flied out to center to bring in Taylor and the tying run. The Lions again went ahead by three runs in the top of the seventh as the Chargers looked for one last push in the last inning. Looking for a rally, KariAnn Mecke tripled to right field, scoring Keira Price and coming within two runs. Mecke then scored on a wild pitch after finding herself in scoring position to bring them within a run. Despite the impressive rally and fight from the Chargers, they went on to fall 9-8 in game two.

  • Clemens and Taylor went 2-4 with two runs batted in and one run scored.
