The Lancaster Bible College Softball team traveled down the highway to Reading, Pa. to take on Penn St. Berks in conference play, losing both games by scores of 1-0 and 2-7. The Chargers fall to 11-18 and 1-10 in the United East while the Lions improve to 19-7 overall and a perfect 12-0 in United East play.
Game 1: 0-1 Loss
How it Happened:
The Chargers managed just one hit through the first three innings with a two-out single from graduate student
Phoebe Clemens in the first, with the Lions plating their lone run of the game in the third inning on a groundout with the bases loaded. Clemens had another hit in the fourth inning but could not score, then the Chargers went down 1-2-3 in both the fifth and six innings as the offense continued to struggle. The defense held Berks to just one run the whole game, then LBC attempted a last-chance rally in the seventh as junior
Alyssa Taylor drew a one-out walk and sophomore
Carleigh Cleland singled to left field. Junior
Maddison Atkins knocked a single with two outs to load the bases, but the Lions shut down the rally as they finished off a tight 1-0 shutout win.
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers were held scoreless on four hits with one error, while the Lions scored one run on just four hits with no errors

Game 2: 2-7 Loss
How it Happened:
The Chargers got the offense rolling right away as freshman
Keira Price hit a triple to center field, then
Phoebe Clemens brought her home with a RBI-double to give the Chargers the lead. After Clemens stole third base,
Alyssa Taylor knocked a single to left field to bring her home and put the Chargers up 2-0 in the first inning. The Lions got even in the second inning as a couple of hits and an error led to two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
After a scoreless third inning, the Lions took their first lead of the game in the fourth with two runs, then added another in the fifth to take a three-run lead. After extending the lead to 7-2 in the sixth, the Chargers had a pair of hits in the top of the seventh, but couldn't muster any runs as they fell by the same score.
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers scored two runs on seven hits with one error, while the Lions scored seven runs on 10 hits and had no errors
