The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team hosted the No. 10 Penn St. Berks on Tuesday afternoon at Cooper Field in Millersville, Pa. for the first round of the United East Playoffs. The Chargers struggled from the plate as the Lions went on to complete the upset, 10-4. The Chargers end their season 18-21 and 8-8 in conference play while the Lions improve to 9-28 overall.
How It Happened: It was timely hitting that allowed the Lions to get things rolling pouring in four first inning runs to take an early 4-0 lead over the Chargers. The Chargers were unable to provide any answers as the Lions scored another four runs in the top of the third inning making it an 8-0 Lions lead.
Two more runs through seven innings of play and the Chargers faced a 10-0 deficit.
Owen Shimmel came into pitch shutting down the Lions striking out five batters in just four innings. With a glimmer of hope on the defensive side, the Chargers were able to get their first run across home plate in the eighth inning as Shimmel sent a single to the right side scoring Colby Peterson.
The Chargers posted three more runs in a last ditch effort in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Lions went on to secure the upset and move on in the United East playoffs, 10-4.
By the Numbers
- The Chargers had seven hits for four runs and four runs batted in.
- The Lions had six hits for 10 runs and seven runs batted in.
- The Lions however had nine walks compared to the Chargers three walks.
- Shimmel went a team best 2-4 with one RBI and a walk.

- Shimmel pitched four innings striking out five batters.
