The Lancaster Bible College Softball team traveled to Morristown, N.J. to take on Saint Elizabeth in a United East double-header on Tuesday afternoon, losing both games by scores of 12-8 and 11-3 in six innings. The Chargers fall to 11-12 overall and 1-4 in conference while the Eagles improve to 13-13 overall and 4-2 in conference.
Game 1: 8-12 Loss
How it Happened:
The Eagles struck first on a sacrifice fly in the first inning to take the lead, but the Chargers had a big response in the second. Sophomore
Carleigh Cleland knocked a double to right field, scoring fellow sophomore
KariAnn Mecke to tie the game at 1-1. After Cleland scored on an error to give the Chargers the lead, junior
Amanda Hoover hit a RBI-double to right center, then graduate student
Phoebe Clemens hit a single that led to Hoover scoring on an error, giving the Chargers a 4-1 lead early in the game.
Saint Elizabeth surged forward with back-to-back four-run innings in the third and fourth to grab a 9-4 advantage, then the Chargers added another in the fifth on a RBI-groundout by freshman
Maggie Kwiatkowski. The Eagles created more separation in the sixth with three more runs, but the Chargers had one more push in them. In the top of the seventh, Hoover singled and freshman
Keira Price drew a walk to put two on for Clemens, who blasted a three-run home run to left field and made it a four-run game. This would be the end of the rally, however, as the Eagles finished off the win 12-8.
