Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Jackson Whitt

Tale of Two Days for the Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team had a quick turnaround after yesterday's defeat as they faced off against the Alfred Saxons at a neutral site on Saturday. After going scoreless the day before, the Chargers would find the back of the net four times today, securing their first win of the 2025 season by a score of 4-1.

How It Happened:

After a slower start, it was the Saxons to apply the first offensive pressure, at the 9:28 mark forcing a save by goalie Amanda Hoover. They would go on to force two penalty corners to close the period, but the score remained 0-0.

The Saxons' aggressiveness would get the better of them, resulting in a green card to start the second period. Within 30 seconds, Riley Danko would score the first goal of the game and first goal of the season for the Chargers. The confidence would continue to grow for Lancaster Bible as they continued to pressure, forcing three penalty corners with the third resulting in a goal by Ayla Zwally, her first of her career, two minutes before half.

The third period would reflect the first period, with the Saxons back on the offensive. They would force three penalty corners compared to the Chargers one, and record two shots on goal, both saved by goalie Amanda Hoover: with the second coming 30 seconds before the end of the period.

The action would continue into the fourth period, with the Chargers forcing a corner and save two minutes in. However, a Lancaster Bible green card 52:00 minutes into the game would result in a goal by the Saxons to cut the lead to one. From that moment though, it was all Lancaster Bible to finish the game as Gabby Dunlap would record her first goal of the season, quickly followed by her second as the Chargers go on to win 4-1.

By the Numbers:

The Chargers out shot the Saxons 17-5 with nine on goal. The Chargers led penalty corners 6-5. The Saxons would snag five saves compared to the Chargers three. Gabby Dunlap (2), Riley Danko (1), and Ayla Zwally (1) were the Charger goal-scorers, with River DeMarco (1) being the lone scorer for the Saxons.

From the Coach:

"Seriously, it was fun. I was extremely happy for the team. I know it has been a change for them and I am grateful for each of them. I think we will continue to grow and learn together. I am excited for what we can accomplish in the future." - Head Coach Kevin Hertzog.
