The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team returned to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon for two more matches on opening weekend, losing 3-1 to Randolph-Macon before picking up their first win of the season in a 3-0 sweep of Susquehanna. The Chargers move to 1-2 overall to start the season while the Yellow Jackets move to 2-1 overall and the River Hawks start 0-3 on the year.

How it Happened:
Juniors
Lea Sareyka,
Eden Belford, and
Jessica Fletcher all had kills early in the set as the Chargers took a 4-3 lead. The Chargers used several Yellow Jacket errors to jump back in front 13-11 later in the set, with freshman
Madison Reap landing a kill to help the Chargers go up 16-12. Randolph-Macon powered back into the set late, scoring seven of the final nine points to steal set one 25-22.

Ashby Brummer had kills early in set two as the score was tied 6-6. Randolph-Macon then scored four in a row to take the lead, but the Chargers answered with a five-point run highlighted by a block from Brummer and Fletcher. The teams traded runs throughout the rest of the set until the Yellow Jackets laid the final blow with three straight kills to end the set 25-20.

The Chargers jumped out early in the third set with a 5-2 lead, extending the lead to five later in the set as Reap and Fletcher landed kills to make it 14-9 LBC. Randolph-Macon battled back into the set as they scored four in a row to tie it at 22-22 late, but the Chargers closed it out 25-23 as they forced an extra set. The fourth set, however, was dominated by the Yellow Jackets, opening up an 8-1 lead and never looking back as they led by as many as 13 points in the set. Madison Timberlake, but Randolph-Macon scored four straight to end the set 25-14 and take the win.

The Chargers got off to a strong start as
Lea Sareyka and
Eden Belford each landed a pair of kills for a 4-1 lead, then
Kaitlyn Weitzel landed a service ace to make it a 6-3 game. Lancaster Bible took off with a five-point run with several River Hawk errors and a kill by senior
Riley Dodrer. The Chargers controlled the rest of the way, ending the set on back-to-back aces from junior
Madeline Reed to win the set 25-14.

The teams traded points early in the second set before a kill by
Ashby Brummer helped spur a four-point run to put LBC up 9-4. Susquehanna battled back to come within one point, but Sareyka knocked two straight kills to keep the distance. Another four-point spurt culminated in a Weitzel service ace, followed up by kills from
Madison Reap and junior
Chloe Belford and then finally a block by Sareyka to end the set 25-17.

Candace Fox had kills to keep the lead. Susquehanna made a late push with four straight points, but the Chargers closed it out 25-21 and completed the sweep for their first victory of the season.

This was the Chargers' first-ever matchup with Randolph-Macon and the second against Susquehanna, moving to 1-1 against the River Hawks.

Lea Sareyka moved into 16th all-time in kills for the Chargers with 481 for her career after two double-digit kill games today.
Jessica Fletcher reached 50 career block assists against Susquehanna and
Madeline Reed reached 50 career service aces in the same match.
