The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team played in front of their home crowd for the first time this season, hosting Wilkes on Monday evening and claiming a 2-1 victory after a pair of early second-half goals. The Chargers move to 1-1 overall while the Colonels drop to 0-2 overall.
Â
How it Happened:
The Chargers forced a corner kick within the first two minutes as seniors
Lucas Durkin and
Matthew Eufemia each fired shots, forcing momentum early. The Colonels had a pair of shots later in the half that were both saved by
Micah Dressler, turning it the other way for a corner kick and two shots for the Chargers as Durkin and senior
Ben Nolt forced saves by the Wilkes keeper. The teams played even for the rest of the half as the score remained empty heading into halftime.
Â
The Chargers came out firing again as they earned a corner kick 42 seconds into the half, with senior
Andrew Cox missing a shot right before Eufemia netted a goal a minute later for the first LBC score of the season, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead. It was only another four minutes before the Chargers broke away again, this time seeing junior
Zach Coryell find some open space and score his first goal of the season to give LBC a two-score lead. The next twenty minutes of the half were tightly contested as both teams rotated lineups and got shots off on goal. With less than seven minutes remaining, Wilkes broke through with a score to tighten it up at 2-1, but the Chargers held strong as they saw three more shots and went on to win by that score for their first victory of the season.
