Chargers Drop Two at Ohio Christian

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team traveled to Circleville, Ohio for a tri-match with Ohio Christian and Rochester Christian, losing to OCU 3-1 and suffering a 3-0 loss to RCU. The Chargers drop to 2-6 overall while the Trailblazers remain undefeated at 13-0 overall and the Warriors move to 8-5 overall.

How it Happened:
It was all Trailblazers in the first set as they raced out to a 10-3 lead after a 6-0 run. Junior Lea Sareyka got two kills to go and junior Madeline Reed landed a service ace, but Ohio Christian kept the lead steady as they went up by as many as 14 points, ending the set with seven of the final eight points to win the first set 25-11.
 
The second set was a different story as the Chargers grabbed the early lead, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage including a block by junior Eden Belford. Sophomore Candace Fox and junior Tessa Kwiatkowski had service aces for LBC and Sareyka and junior Chloe Belford landed kills throughout, ending the set with a kill by Chloe Belford to take set two 25-18 and tie up the match at 1-1.
 
The Chargers led early in set three at 4-0 with an ace from Sareyka, but Ohio Christian worked their way back in and battled with LBC early on. Junior Jessica Fletcher got in on the kill game and both Belfords landed kills, but the Trailblazers surged ahead off a timeout with five straight points, then launched a six-point run right after to put the set away as they won 25-20. The Trailblazers got the 4-0 start in the fourth set, but LBC pulled back within one after a Sareyka kill. Ohio Christian had several runs throughout the set, staying in control and winning the set 25-18 and closing out the Chargers.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers led in blocks 8-4, the teams tied with six service aces apiece, and the Trailblazers dominated in kills 50-32
- Lea Sareyka led the Chargers with nine kills and eight digs
- Both Eden Belford and Chloe Belford finished with six kills
- Senior Madison Timberlake had a match-high 17 digs and Tessa Kwiatkowski had 12 assists
- The Trailblazers were led by Aliah Snider with match-highs of 14 kills and 17 assists

How it Happened:
The Chargers and Warriors battled in the first set as Lea Sareyka, freshman Ashby Brummer, and senior Riley Dodrer landed kills to keep the set close. Sareyka had back-to-back kills late in the set, but the Warriors finished the set 25-21 to take an early advantage.
 
Sareyka and Dodrer kept heading up the kill game for the Chargers in the second set, with Madison Timberlake landing an ace as well. Late in the set, Dodrer and Jessica Fletcher got a block to tie the set, but the Warriors went on a big run to close the set 25-18. Eden Belford and Sareyka had kills in the third set as the Chargers battled with RCU, but the Warriors got out to a big 18-8 lead after putting together a 10-point run. The Warriors held on to win 25-17 and complete the sweep of the Chargers.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers held a slight edge in aces 4-3 but the Warriors led in kills 35-22
- Lea Sareyka led the Chargers with nine kills
- Tessa Kwiatkowski had nine assists and Madison Timberlake had 10 digs
- Madison Timberlake had her second 20-dig match of the season with 21 today
- Chloe Belford and Riley Dodrer each had two blocks
- The Warriors were led by Kendal Zeiter with 10 kills
 
Information to Know:
The Chargers are 1-3 all-time against Ohio Christian and played Rochester Christian for the first time. Today was a rematch of last season's NCCAA Mideast Regional Championship as the Chargers defeated the Trailblazers in four sets on November 22, 2024 to earn a spot in the National Tournament.

The Chargers are back home on Tuesday, September 16 as they host York (Pa.) at 7:00 p.m. in the Horst Athletic Center.
