Women’s Volleyball Sweeps United East Opener

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team hosted their Homecoming match on Saturday morning in the United East opening match against Penn St. Berks, cruising to a 3-0 sweep. The Chargers improve to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Lions drop to 0-13 overall and 0-1 in conference.
 
How it Happened:
The Chargers set the tone early with the first five points in set one, pulling ahead 9-2 early with service aces from junior Lea Sareyka and sophomore Candace Fox. The Chargers later launched their longest run of the season with 11 straight points, featuring kills from Sareyka and senior Riley Dodrer and three aces by junior Jessica Fletcher, helping the Chargers sail to a 25-7 set one win. Three aces from junior Madeline Reed gave LBC a 4-0 set two lead, with another six points in a row with back-to-back blocks by senior Jessica Hendricks for a 10-1 advantage. The Lions showed some fight in the middle of the set, but Lancaster Bible scored nine of the next ten points with two more aces from Sareyka to wrap up the set 25-8. Set three was more of the same as the Chargers jumped out 7-1, never looking back as they ended the set with eight consecutive points and ended on two kills from Sareyka to win 25-7 and sweep the Lions on Homecoming.
 
By the Numbers:
- It was all Chargers in the box score as they held Penn St. Berks to seven kills, two aces, and three blocks
- Lea Sareyka led the Chargers with 13 kills, 10 digs, and four aces
- Madeline Reed dished 29 assists and added four aces
- Senior Madison Timberlake had a team-high 15 digs with six assists as well
- The Lions were led by Emily Snader with two kills and two blocks
 
Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 9-18 all-time against Penn St. Berks and have won the last two matches over the Lions. This was the Chargers' fourth straight win in conference openers dating back to 2022 and their fourth straight Homecoming win.
