Chargers Power Past Seahawks at Home

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team returned home to host St. Mary's (Md.) in United East action on Saturday afternoon, using a strong second half to race to a 98-70 victory and their fourth straight win. The Chargers improve to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in the United East while the Seahawks drop to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the United East.

How it Happened:
The Chargers started out strong as Connor Storr (Jr.) and Camden Hurst (Jr.) assisted each other on scores, then Daniel King (Jr.) turned an offensive rebound into two points to cap a 9-0 opening run for the Chargers. Nile Austin (Sr.) then hit a 3-pointer for a seven-point lead, then the Seahawks' Corey Blair hit two deep threes to pull them within one at 12-11. Jacob Lewis (Fr.) ended the run with a made three, then the Chargers went back up six on a free throw by Storr. St. Mary's (Md.) then scored six in a row, then pulled ahead by three after a 12-3 run before the Chargers swung back ahead on a Hurst layup. The lead was traded twice again before Storr threw down a fast-break dunk, then Hurst and Mark Heidebrecht (Sr.) followed up with layups to get the lead back to five. The Seahawks finished the half strong, tying the score twice before pulling ahead by two at halftime at 40-38.

The Seahawks made the lead four to open the second half before the Chargers exploded for 12 straight points, highlighted by layups from Storr and Hurst and a corner three by Austin. This gave LBC an eight-point lead, then Austin made a layup and Reaves Hooks (Sr.) knocked down a three to extend the Chargers' lead to 12 at 56-44 less than five minutes into the half. Hooks then lit up the building with a putback, and-one slam that fell through, then Lewis hit a three for an 18-point LBC lead. Hurst then followed Hooks a little later with a fast-break dunk, then Heidebrecht had a tip-in layup to make the Chargers' lead 20+ at 72-51. Heidebrecht and Hurst continued the scoring as the Chargers padded the lead, going up by as many as 31 points on several occasions as both teams put in their bench. Heidebrecht continued his tear and Trey Grube (Jr.) hit a pair of threes down the stretch as the Chargers closed out a big home win over the Seahawks and improved to 5-0 in conference play.
