Men’s Basketball Races Past Patriots

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team made the trip to Phoenixville, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to face Valley Forge in conference play, racing to a 104-67 victory on the road. The Chargers improve to 15-4 overall and 7-0 in United East play while the Patriots fall to 4-13 overall and 1-7 in the United East.

How it Happened:
The Chargers got started just about two minutes into the game as Camden Hurst (Jr.) knocked down a 3-pointer on the wing, then Bennett Bowers (So.) got free for a fast-break layup for a 7-3 LBC advantage. Another layup from Bowers made it a six-point lead, then Jacob Lewis (Fr.) hit a three for a 16-11 Chargers lead. Valley Forge responded with eight straight points in just over a minute of play to pull ahead 19-16, but Lewis then added five quick points and Connor Storr (Jr.) had three buckets that highlighted a big 15-point answer from the Chargers, taking the lead right back for a 12-point edge. Trey Grube (Jr.) got in on the action with a made three and a jumper later on, then Hurst and Storr combined for the final 14 LBC points of the first half to help the Chargers to a 53-38 halftime lead.

The second-half scoring began with a layup by Daniel King (Jr.), then it was Nile Austin (Sr.) who hit a three to make the lead 20 points for the Chargers in the first minute. The Patriots responded with a seven-point run to cut into the lead, then Mark Heidebrecht (Sr.) had a tip-in layup off the offensive rebound to halt the charge. Storr and Heidebrecht then added scores before Hurst knocked down another three, then Storr again on a fast-break layup for a Valley Forge timeout. Hurst continued to add to the lead in the coming minutes and Tyshaun Pulley (Sr.) hit a pair of shots, then it was Grube and Marco Cabezas (Jr.) with multiple scores down the stretch to get LBC over 100 and finish out another conference victory.

By the Numbers:
- The Chargers shot a season-high 66-percent from the floor, 40-percent from 3-point range, but shot just 44-percent from the free throw line
- The Patriots shot 42-percent from the floor, 43-percent from three, and 52-percent on free throws
- Camden Hurst led the Chargers with 26 points on 11-15 from the field, adding six rebounds and 2-2 from 3-point range
- Connor Storr added 18 points, eight rebounds, and tied a career-high with six steals
- Mark Heidebrecht had 11 points and four rebounds
- The Patriots were led by Michael Broady with a team-high 17 points off the bench

Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 10-14 against Valley Forge since 2006 and have won six straight against the Patriots, with this being their first meeting since 2016. The Chargers continue their unbeaten streak in United East play at 7-0 this season and have won nine straight regular season conference games dating back to last season. This is the Chargers' fourth time this season scoring over 100 points and the third time in the last four games, entering today ranked 12th in NCAA Division III in scoring offense at 91.1 points per game. Camden Hurst entered today ranked 34th in NCAA Division III in scoring with 21.2 points per game, upping that total to 21.5 after today which would be good enough for top-30 in the nation.
