The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team hosted Penn St. Abington on Wednesday night in United East action, falling by a score of 64-55 after a big fourth quarter. The Chargers fall to 8-14 overall and 6-4 in the United East while the Lions improve to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the United East.
How it Happened:
After a quick 4-0 start for the Lions,
Raven Hunter (Sr.) got the Chargers started with a layup in the paint. The Chargers then were held scoreless over the next four minutes of play as the Lions built a 13-2 lead on a nine-point run, ending with a pair of free throws by Hunter. Off an inbound pass,
Isabella Eufemia (Jr.) knocked down a 3-pointer, starting a 7-0 run that Eufemia had all by herself as she got a fast-break layup and two free throws as well.
Emily Wilson (Fr.) drove for a layup right as the first quarter ended, capping an 11-0 run to end the quarter for LBC as the score was tied 13-13.
Hunter opened the second quarter with a layup about a minute in to end a 13-point unanswered streak by the Chargers, then
Rachel Nolt (Jr.) hit a jumper to give LBC the lead right back. The Lions then launched a run to go up by eight points at 26-18 before
Emma Christner (Fr.) hit a mid-range jumper to end the run. Down eight with three minutes to go, Wilson connected on a pair of threes and then Nolt drove for a layup, helping the Chargers score eight straight points to tie the game at 28-28 heading into halftime.
Like the second, Hunter scored to open the third quarter, this time for two layups as the Chargers carried over a 12-point run into the second half to lead by four. Penn St. Abington pulled back within one, then
Shania Stoltzfus (So.) got a layup to go in transition and Wilson hit a jumper for the Chargers' largest lead of the game at 38-33. From there, the Lions scored seven in a row to retake the lead before Nolt tied the score at 40 on a pull-up jumper. The lead then went back and forth as the Chargers hit three 3-pointers down the stretch in the third, one by Eufemia and two by Christner as LBC held a one-point lead at 49-48 with 10 minutes to go.
The Lions took the lead on the first possession of the fourth quarter and never looked back as they built on that lead, getting the deficit as high as 11 in the quarter. The Chargers were held to just six points in the final period as Penn St. Abington closed out the nine-point road win in Lancaster.
