Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Wilson at Home

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team hosted a Tuesday night match in United East play as they took on Wilson, sweeping to a 3-0 victory. The Chargers improve to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in the United East while the Phoenix drop to 1-17 overall and 0-5 in the United East.

How it Happened:
Chloe Belford (Sr.) got the Chargers started with kills on the first two points, then she landed a service ace en route to a 7-2 start for LBC. The lead extended to 13-4 on a four-point run started by a kill from Samantha Hey (So.) and ended on a service ace by Jessica Fletcher (Sr.), but Wilson responded with four points of their own to make it 13-8. Down the stretch, the Chargers won eight of nine points to extend the lead to 20-9, powered by several Charger kills and a Lea Sareyka (Sr.) service ace. A kill and a block from Fletcher helped seal set one 25-11 for the Chargers.

LBC got off to a similar start in set two as two blocks by Chloe Belford got the Chargers up 5-2 early on. The teams then traded points before a five-point burst from the Chargers, two kills by Eden Belford (Sr.) helping to power the run to a 12-6 LBC lead. Tessa Kwiatkowski (Sr.) had a pair of service aces as the Chargers won six of seven points to extend the lead to nine, then Lancaster Bible closed fast with the final seven points in a row as three straight Phoenix errors got the Chargers another 25-11 set win and a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Chargers led early in set three at 4-1 with kills from Sareyka and Hannah Helmer (Fr.), seeing the lead increase to 7-2 after an ace from Lyndsie Bomgardner (Fr.). Hey started a three-point run with a kill for a 10-3 LBC advantage, then Wilson powered their way back into the set with five straight points to cut the lead down to two at 12-10. The Chargers bounced back with four straight in response, but the Phoenix would not go away as another burst of four kept the game close. Hey added two more kills and Madeline Reed (Sr.) had a service ace, but Wilson cut the lead back to two late at 23-21 and fended off a set point as well. Sareyka, however, had the final say with a kill to end the set 25-22 and secure the conference sweep for the Chargers at home.
