The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team took on Notre Dame (Md.) at home in United East action on Wednesday night, securing a 1-0 victory and clinching their spot in the United East playoffs. The Chargers improve to 7-8-1 overall and 5-2 in the United East while the Gators drop to 4-6-2 overall and 3-4 in the United East.
How it Happened:
After a corner kick and an early shot by
Ruben Reyes (So.), the Gators had the game's first shot on goal that was saved by
Chris Jackson (Sr.).
Zach Coryell (Gr.) then had a pair of shots within a minute of each other, then
Silas Dellaperute (Jr.) fired two shots with one on goal to keep up the offensive momentum. The Chargers drew two corner kicks later on with a high shot by
Jeremy Lee (Fr.), but neither team could find the back of the net as the score remained 0-0 heading into the halftime break.
Jackson had some early heroics for the Chargers in the second half as he batted away a close free kick up and out and taking a strong shot off the chest to force a corner kick that came up empty for the Gators. The teams traded passes up and down the field for the next 10 minutes before Lee had a pair of shot attempts that each missed wide. With 20 minutes to play,
Gabe Bormolini (Fr.) gathered the ball on the right side and found Coryell in the middle near the 18-line, firing a left-footed shot into the left corner for a score to light up the crowd and put LBC on top 1-0. The Gators had two more shots on goal in the match that were both saved by Jackson, with time running out as the Chargers secured a tight victory and clinched a postseason berth.
