The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team battled until the final match Saturday afternoon at the Bowers Center, coming up just short in a 4-3 loss to Elizabethtown College. The Chargers fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Blue Jays claimed the doubles point, taking victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
Sierra Hartmann and
Natalie Hoover fell 6-2 at the top spot, while
Jania Weist and
Lindsey Ochs were edged 6-2 at No. 2. The Chargers picked up a win by default at No. 3 doubles, as
Becky Dimov and
Katelyn Reiderich were awarded the match.
In singles play, Lancaster Bible showed resilience and fight across the lineup, earning two hard-fought three-set victories.
At No. 2 singles, Weist delivered a clutch performance. After cruising to a 6-0 first-set win, she dropped a tightly contested second-set tiebreak before responding with a dominant 10-6 win in the match tiebreak to secure the point. Hoover followed with another gritty effort at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3 in the opening set before falling in the second and rallying for a 10-8 victory in the deciding tiebreak.
Reiderich added a point at No. 6 singles by default.
Hartmann (No. 1), Ochs (No. 4), and Dimov (No. 5) each competed hard but were unable to overcome their opponents in straight-set decisions, with Ochs and Dimov both pushing their first sets to 7-5 margins.
Despite the narrow defeat, the Chargers showcased depth and determination, highlighted by two comeback wins in singles play. Lancaster Bible will look to carry that momentum into its next match.
